Francis M. Malcolm

Francis received his early education in the close-knit community of Easton, where he attended both elementary and secondary school. After graduating from Easton High School, he pursued a diverse range of educational opportunities in the field of educational administration. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Ricker College and later obtained a master’s degree from Cornell University. His commitment to lifelong learning led him to complete advanced graduate studies at Columbia University.

With a passion for shaping education, Francis Malcolm dedicated most of his professional career to school administration. He spent approximately 25 years serving as a superintendent of schools in Vermont, playing a pivotal role in enhancing educational programs and policies. In the final decade of his career, he brought his expertise to Alaska, where he continued his work in educational leadership. During his time there, a vacation to California sparked a new chapter in his life, leading him to invest in real estate in the state. It was these property investments that formed the basis for the legacy that Francis Malcolm willed to the people of Aroostook County.

Following his retirement, Francis relocated to California, where he lived until his passing in 1977. Reflecting on the life of Francis M. Malcolm, it is evident that he was a devoted humanitarian with a deep commitment to the people of Aroostook County. His appreciation for the natural world was equally profound, and he passionately advocated for the inclusion of natural history studies in education. Malcolm left Aroostook County a legacy that has touched the lives of many of Aroostook’s citizens.
