WELCOME TO
THE FRANCIS MALCOLM SCIENCE CENTER

Opening in October, 1983, the Francis Malcolm Science Center (FMSC) continues to teach and scientifically inspire the communities of Aroostook County. The only center of its kind north of Bangor, Maine, FMSC remains home to the northern-most planetarium theater in the continental United States. Thousands of visitors excitedly attend our programs and events annually.

While astronomy and space science comprise much of the program menu, FMSC also offers a nature classroom, devoted to “hands-on”, discovery approach lessons and experiences in life and environmental science. A 140+ wooded biome adds an enriching engagement with the wilderness.

The heart of the Science Center’s work and mission focuses upon a generous outreach to the local educational community. Students & teachers, from all walks of local life, experience memorable life long learning encounters within a wide menu of hands-on science related topics. Furthermore, the general public joyfully participates in seasonal activities, including snow shoe hikes, wreath making and crafting, and learning how to press and process apple cider.

Additionally, FMSC displays an impressive series of natural history exhibits reinforcing its dedication and exploration of the natural world.

FMSC closes during the school year Summer Vacation; contact us for further information regarding off-hour special programming and visits upon request:This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
